Introduction: The Silent Digital Threat
Cyberbullying has become one of India’s fastest-growing cybercrimes. From school students to working professionals, online abuse has severe emotional and psychological effects.
What Is Phishing?
Phishing is a cyberattack where criminals pretend to be trusted organizations — banks, courier services, e-commerce brands, or government portals — to steal money or personal data.
Phishing usually appears as:
- Fake bank SMS alerts
- Emails asking you to “update KYC”
- Fraud job offers
- Fake courier delivery updates
- Free gift/lottery links
- Social media DM scams
The goal?
To make you click without thinking.
Types of Phishing Attacks

2. Smishing
Phishing through SMS or WhatsApp messages.
3. Vishing
Scam calls pretending to be from banks, police, or customer support.
4. Spear Phishing
Targeted attacks using personal information to appear “real”.
5. Clone Websites
Fake websites that look identical to banking or shopping platforms.
6. Social Media Phishing
Fake Instagram or Facebook giveaways, offers, or impersonation accounts.

How to Identify a Phishing Attempt
Check the Email / SMS Sender
Fake domains often look like:
@sbibank.co.in-payment.com@amaz0n-support.com
2. Beware of Urgent Messages
“Your account will be blocked in 24 hours” = red flag.
3. Hover Over Links
URLs should match the actual website. Scam links often have random characters or misleading spellings.
4. Don’t Download Suspicious Attachments
Malware is often hidden in PDFs, ZIP files, or invoice attachments.
5. Check for HTTPS
Fake websites may skip SSL encryption.
How to Protect Yourself from Phishing
1. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Even if your password is stolen, your account stays protected.
2. Never Share OTPs or PINs
No bank or app will ever ask for your OTP.
3. Install Antivirus and Anti-Phishing Tools
They warn you before opening malicious links.
4. Update Your Apps & Operating System
Updates patch vulnerabilities.
5. Verify Before Clicking
When in doubt, go directly to the official website — never trust links sent in messages.
